From Sunday to Tuesday, the villagers prepare the pyre for the Mardi Gras Man while money is raised for the giant omelette which will be prepared. Eggs, butter, bacon as well as fuel to cook with and other small contributions are collected in order to make a traditional and collective meal, which will be divided among the crowds. The rites at the end of the festivals are similar in every village: the sentencing of Sire Mardi-Gras, his drowning and cremation..., the disguises, dances (farandoles) and the pleasure of soiling: daubings... while the revelry of the music groups, the parades and the masked balls can be heard as one throughout the valley. |
