In 2007, Brussels celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome for 50 days.

Numerous events, exhibitions and fairs were held to show the work of the different institutions by means of an important communication campaign.

In 2008, Brussels continues to celebrate at the European Village, so party along:

The European District

When I leave the Cinquantenaire park and head towards the city centre, I quickly discover the bust of Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of Europe. A little bit further, the renovation of BERLAYMONT (BRUXELLES) firmly anchors the seat of the EUROPEAN COMMISSION (BRUXELLES) in this European centre. Going downwards, in the direction of the LEOPOLD PARK (ETTERBEEK) and the Luxembourg station, I can marvel at the new buildings of the LEOPOLD PARK (ETTERBEEK), a glass house shining in the sun. Here, Europe is being constructed.

Europe for all

Brussels has always asserted its European and international character. On the Heysel plateau, the great hall of the palace of expositions and the ATOMIUM (LAEKEN) are silent witnesses of the world fair of 1897 and 1958. Next to the Atomium, MINI-EUROPE (LAEKEN) offers a miniature heritage with a journey between the most beautiful monuments of Europe as well as an interactive exposition about the European Union.
