The Fraternity of the Quarteniers de la Flamiche of Dinant was created in 1956. The idea was to encourage its members to defend and promote their community. They're doing this by organising traditional festivities. It is also a way to make sure that the ancient traditions and specialities of Dinant don't get lost. On the Flamiche Tournament participants have to eat in 45 minutes as much "Flaminche Dinantaise" as possible. This speciality typical of the region can be best described as a strongly seasoned tart made with full cream cheese and eaten hot with an old vintage burgundy wine. At the end of the competition the King of the Flamiche and his dauphin are crowned for one year.
