South of Tournai, close to the French border, in the heart of the Brunehaut district lies the little village of Lesdain, famous for more than a century and a half for its nurseries and huge range of plant varieties. On the first weekend in September, the Lesdain nurserymen organise a magnificent and important rose exhibition. The event takes place in the fine neo-Romanesque village church and draws thousands of visitors each year. In 1988 a new rose was named after the village of Lesdain.
