At first this fair was primarily aimed at promoting and celebrating the Belgian draught horse - a broad backed and wiry animal - whose golden age was between the end of the nineteenth century and 1940. Although the Ardennes draught horse has slowly disappeared over the years, competitions (with no less than two hundred horses) are still organized and attract large crowds to the province of Luxembourg. This is not only a window on agricultural life, but also an immense rural festival where the past and the present come together.
