The carnival of Marche originates from a character called Gugusse. However, he's not the only participant to the carnival of fat Sunday.
At the heart of the capital of Famenne, we found a surprising legend about a "Grosse Biesse" who gave its name to the carnival! The carnival of Marche is a mix of picturesque characters including the 'Grand Georges', last campanologist of Marche and the 'Grand Mautchî' who was called Prince Carnival before 1995. The history of the carnival of Marche is also linked to local societies that have been participating to the carnival since 1960. The 2009 theme is: "the 'Grosse Biesse' comes back from the Belle Epoque".
