LUNDI PERDU

LUNDI PERDU
© maison tourisme et Musée de Folklore Tournai

The first Monday following Epiphany (Feast of the Three Kings), the inhabitants of Tournai celebrate "lundi parjuré (betrayal Monday)" or "lundi perdu (Lost Monday)". It is such an old tradition that we don't remember very well which betrayal it concerns. The other name (Lost Monday) means this : to celebrate the day, people took a day off without being paid, it was a lost day on their pay slip. Today the tradition is carried on and that day the famous rabbit of "lundi perdu" is eaten.
