These festivities, dating back to 1923, celebrate the patriotism and Walloon conscience, and commemorate the revolutionary days of September 1830. Although celebrated in the entire southern part of Belgium, these festivities are especially successful in Namur, where some 250.000 people descend on the town for the weekend.

Among the main Namurois events the most remarkable is no doubt the moving and funny mass in Walloon on Monday morning. Also worth mentioning is the "Frairie des Masuis et Cotelis Jambois - who have gained a reputation for their old dances both in Belgium and abroad. On the place St Aubain you can marvel at the famous "Joutes des échasseurs" (the Stilt-walker's Contest). This is an ancient and near sacred tradition in Namur.
