This department conserves works from the late 18th century to the Contemporary period: paintings, sculptures and drawings. It is the logical continuation of an artistic evolution beginning in the Museum of Ancient Art.
The 19th century collections are exhibited in the neo-classical building overlooking the Place Royale. Paintings and sculptures are placed along a thematic and chronological trail spreading on 6 floors or levels. The 20th century works are aggregated in the rooms inaugurated in 1984. In the underground, they are distributed around a light shaft giving to the building a special identity.
