The Château de la Follie, also known as the "château d'en bas" (château at the bottom), stands 700m as the crow flies from another one, known as the "château d'en haut" (château at the top), the fortress of Ecaussinnes-Lalaing. It is named after the wooded area in which it was built, "Follie" meaning leafy. In front of the whole ensemble surrounded by wide moats stood a barbican, whose bases were restored and can still be seen today. As for the moats, they were filled up during the 18th c. In the 16th c, this fortified castle was underwent a transformation at the instigation of Isabeau de Witthem. The St Christopher Chapel stands in a corner of the inner courtyard. Built in a flamboyant style, with an octagonal layout, it has two levels and is covered by a dome roof.
