It is called the Violet ('la Violette') because of the sign on the house which was the venue for meetings of the city gentry in the 13th and 14th centuries. This traditional-style building, a transition between Louis XIII and Louis XIV styles, is the work of Sarto. It is U-shaped. Its facades are a combination of brick and stone. On the market square, a slightly projecting central avant-corps is entered via a double perron with a handrail decorated with pine cones symbolising the unity and openness of the people of Liège. The slate roof features oval skylights surrounded by volutes. The interior boasts many works of art, wainscoting and stuccos, not least of all the original sculpture of the Three Graces by Jean Del Cour crowning the perron overlooking the market square.

City hall is only accessible during office hours (Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm).
