It was in 1902 that the engineer Edouard Hannon (1853-1931) called upon his friend, the architect Jules Brunfaut (1852-1942) to build this hotel, a masterpiece in the Art Nouveau style. The furniture was designed by Emile Gallé. The frescoes from the stairwell and the smoking room are the work of the Rouennais painter Paul-Emile Baudouin. The remarkable stained-glass windows are made by Evaldre, disciple of Tiffany's. At the present time, the building, which is the property of the town of Saint-Gilles, is occupied by the Contretype Photographic space which is devoted to the promotion of creative photography by organizing, in particular, exhibitions.
