LES CARRIÈRES DE LESSINES

You are entering the land of stone quarrying. Everything here will remind you of this industrialised activity that lasted more than 150 years: the moonscape-like active quarries, the sumptuous scenery of the former quarries covered with water and re-colonised by vegetation, the dock piers, the railway tracks, the houses reflecting social history, the small pathways, the people's house, the street names... even the parish is named after Saint Roch, protector of the quarry workers.
